Our Allotments

Below are a few pictures taken on our allotments, For a clearer view, just click on any picture to enlarge.

At this time of year some people think that gardening takes a rest until spring. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is the time of year to apply manure, remove weeds, sort out paths and plan those new beds for next year. In six weeks time (first week in January) I will be planting Tomato and Onion seed, and getting Chrysanthemum stools started to hopefully to obtain lots of cuttings.  From then on it’s all go, every month there will be seeds to plant, seedlings to prick out and cuttings to take. (Remember to allow time for dreaming.)

2011 was quite a successful year for our allotment site, In the Leeds and district allotment competition, out of some hundred  entrants we managed a 1st, 3rd , and a 7th .   as you can imagine we were delighted with the results, however next year will not be as easy, looking over our shoulder Paula from Gledhow Allotments springs to mind as Paula and her husband produced a smashing plot in a short space of time finishing 6th and I know they will try to improve on this placing.

At last I have made a start on turning the plot over, over half the plot now dug.  Tomato and onion seeds planted, first of chrysanthemum cuttings taken.  February is the real start of seed sowing

The whole plot now dug over. Just two raised beds to sort out then ready for Spring.

Like a lot of dreamers I have worked out a planting guide for this years plot and this can be viewed at :--
