There have been a number of articles recently about people claiming large amounts of money from insurance companies for supposed injuries received in minor bumps in motor vehicles. One such case reported was when a car pulled in front of another vehicle and then braked hard, although the following car hit the brakes he still bumped the car in front at approx 5 m.p.h. He was amazed to discover the driver of the car was awarded £18,000 for serious whiplash injuries to himself and a female passenger, knowing there was no damage to either car, not even scratched paintwork he visited his local police station to report what he thought was a blatant attempt to defraud the insurance company.
Although the police were sympathetic, without proof their hands were tied, he then approached the insurer and was told it would cost more in legal fees to fight the claim through the courts so it works out cheaper to pay out. No harm done you might think but his insurance went up by £120.
One day when browsing to Internet I came across a company selling in car camera kits that were quite reasonably priced, the spec was very good so I purchased one and two days later it arrived. Simple to fit with supplied windscreen holder it runs from its own batteries or from the cigarette lighter, you can record in H.D. for 2/5/OR 15 minutes to its own 4-gig chip. (Expandable)
The chip is designed if full to start again and overwrite the content. As this was purchased to record events while driving this is not a problem.
The camera has built in pir capability so could also be left turned on and left in your car, kitchen, office or indeed anywhere you wanted to record movement knowing that should anything occur the camera will start recording. (At this stage boys and their toys springs to mind).
I now record every journey I make in my car.
I have added a couple of actual frames to show the quality of the recording. I must add that the camera can also take single pictures.
